The Rion-Antirrion cable-stayed bridge is completed in 2004 between Rio (near Patra) and Antirrion, connecting the Peloponnese with western mainland Greece and upward with the rest of Europe. Constructed by the French company Vinci.
The length of the bridge rests on four pillars, stands at 2,252 meters, the maximum depth of foundation reaches 65 meters and was designed and built to specifications to withstand an earthquake greater than 7.4 on the Richter scale. It has been estimated also that withstands any conflict of tanker tonnage of 180,000 tons, and a wind speed of 265 km / h, a speed that corresponds to a Category 5 hurricane. The bridge includes pedestrian / bikeway.
